Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero is an American actress singer and former model. Her most well-known role was co-starring in Prince's 1984 film Purple Rain and for having been the main singer for the girl group Apollonia 6. The group was just one of the female performers who gained from Prince's collaboration in the 1980s. Born Patricia Kotero in Santa Monica California in 1959, her professional career began as a model and actress by the end of the '70s and included an appearance on the television show CHiPS. She was the lead female of Prince's Purple Rain in 1984 (at when he was changing his name). In the same year, she took over Vanity as a member of the group Vanity 6 as well as performed alongside the group under the name Apollonia 6 in the film. Sex Shooter on the soundtrack had a small hit for her trio but as Prince's Duet Partner on Take Me with You she had more success. Kotero's relationship with Prince was ended after the two were at odds over the direction she was taking in her career. Apollonia 6, the organization she was a part of was split. In the wake of appearing in minor film (and reportedly refusing to participate on the Purple Rain film Under the Cherry Moon) her name was mentioned and she was cast in the 1985-1986 nighttime drama Falcon Crest. Apollonia began her professional debut in 1988. However, the album of R&B/dance that was pretty pedestrian and didn't impress the music buyers of the time, quickly vanished. Throughout the decade that followed, she remained an active actor, with a few film appearances and a few TV series. Apollonia created a bilingual Spanish and English album called Stay with Me. She returned to the school where she received her diploma in filmmaking. After that, she started her own company and worked on children's television. Apollonia has many hats.
