As well as being the band's long-term drummer, Lee was the founder of the rap metal band Methods of Mayhem and has been involved in solo projects. Lee is a PETA advocate and an ardent advocate for animal rights. In 2010 Lee wrote to Terry Prather, the president of SeaWorld protesting the treatment of Tilikum the orca. Lee thought that the orca should be released . He also stated that SeaWorld would not allow it to happen, since Tilikum is their primary sperm donor. Lee said he was appalled by SeaWorld's sick and insidious methods of getting Tilikum Sperm. Lee expressed his desire to prevent more tragedies like trainers' deaths, which was due to the whales' inability to be held in captivity.
